About us...

Horry County Schools serves over 37,000 students from nine attendance areas and is the third largest among the South Carolina's 85 school districts. Horry County is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and North Carolina to the north and has a land mass larger than the state of Rhode Island.

The district has a total of 50 schools which include 26 elementary schools, eleven middle schools, ten high schools, two academies, a Scholars Academy, and an alternative school.

Would you like to take a history tour of public schools? The South Carolina Department of Archives and History has some insurance file photographs of public schools taken between 1935 and 1952. Click here to view the old photos. Many of these buildings are long gone and some of the communities are no longer on current maps.
