Mark Porter, principal at North Myrtle Beach Elementary School, was recently named the Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Council for Exceptional Children (SCCEC). The award annually recognizes a principal who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of exceptional children and youth in South Carolina. Porter was honored at the Annual SCCEC Conference held in Charleston.

Porter was nominated for the award by Amber Borgman, a special educator at North Myrtle Beach Elementary School and a former Horry County Schools’ Teacher of the Year.

“Mark is an incredible visionary, advocate, cheerleader, and provider for students with exceptional needs,” Borgman wrote in her nomination. “He has always been, and continues to be, a nurturer and a friend to my students. He goes out of his way to make them feel like important members of our school family,” Borgman wrote.

The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted.
