Socastee High School Band wins Outstanding Performance Award
(posted on June 16, 2009)

OPAThe Socastee High School Band, under the direction of Cheryl Polenick, has received the South Carolina Band Directors Association’s Outstanding Performance Award, the highest honor awarded to high school bands in South Carolina. In order to receive the award, a high school band must excel in all aspects of their band program, including achievements in marching band, concert band festival, solo and ensemble competitions, and the number of students qualifying for all state and all region concert bands. Many bands achieve one portion of a band program but few achieve the upper echelon of winning the Outstanding Performance Award. This is the first time in the history of the school that Socastee has received the award. Only 9 high schools in class AAA were awarded this honor in 2009.
