Aynor Middle School Chorus brings home sweet rewards from Hershey Park competition

(posted on May 11, 2010)

After competing in the Showcase Music Festival held in Hershey Park, Pennsylvania, the Aynor Middle School (AMS) Chorus walked away with sweet rewards.

Among 15 middle schools from multiple states, the AMS chorus won First Place in the Middle School Mixed Choir Division and Best Over-all Junior High/Middle School Choral Performance for receiving the highest rating of all the participating middle school choirs. Eighth-grader Makayla Butler served as the chorus accompanist and won the Over-all Best Accompanist Award of the Festival.

Through the adjudication process students were scored based on a rubric designed from the national music standards.  Students were evaluated on intonation, rhythmic accuracy, technical accuracy, diction, interpretation of music, balance of vocal parts and overall appearance and performance.
