Devin Tiernan, a senior at Socastee High School, was awarded the S. Hunter Howard Jr. Scholarship after participating in the 26th Annual South Carolina Business Week program this summer. The $5,000 scholarship recognizes a Business Week student who consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership abilities. It was introduced in 2008 in honor of S. Hunter Howard Jr., retired president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
Each year, the Business Week program offers bright young minds the unique opportunity to interact with business leaders and student peers to learn more about the business world and successful careers. The program is presented by the South Carolina Cable Television Association and is hosted on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC.
Tiernan is captain of the Socastee High School lacrosse team, a member of the National Honors Society, and has completed more than 100 hours of volunteer service this summer alone. He may use the scholarship at the South Carolina college or university of his choice.
