Elsberry named Superintendent of Schools

The Horry County Board of Education voted unanimously to name Dr. Cynthia Elsberry as the new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Elsberry was chosen from three finalists after each had participated in second interviews with the Board, visited schools, and met with district employees and community members.

Dr. Elsberry has served as the superintendent of Talladega County (Alabama) Schools, a 7,900-student district, since 2002. She has also served as coordinator of special education, principal, and teacher in Alabama and Georgia.

The Board has directed legal counsel to work with Dr. Elsberry to determine the terms of her contract, which is to begin July 1, 2008.
